Getting high-quality referrals is easy, but if you’re one of the almost everybody who thinks it’s hard, here’s the missing ingredient. I’m going to share with you a mental hack that will permanently change the way that you think about getting referrals, and as you get this right, everything else will fall into place.
Here it is. If asking for referrals is hard, it’s because you’re taking. If you want to make it easy, you have to make it about giving.
If you’ve given your client a great experience and you’ve provided great value, then you should offer to do the same thing for the people that they care about, but if you’ve merely engaged in a transaction, if your client is just a checkbook than asking for a referral is asking them to give you something extra. You’re actually taking from them now, and they’re going to feel some kind of weird obligation, and you’re going to possibly feel unworthy, or maybe you do care about your clients, but for some reason, you don’t believe in your value.
That’s the topic we’re going to cover in a separate video, but suffice it to say that if you’re in the business of loving and serving your clients, of course, they will want you to love and serve the people that they care about and then getting referrals is easy, so try that on and let us know how it works. Of course, we’re here to help.
